Iraqi Interior Ministry Arrests 249 Electronic Fraud Suspects and Shuts Down Over 4,890 Fake Pages
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced that it is continuing its efforts to combat electronic fraud, confirming the arrest of 249 suspects and the closure and blocking of more than 4,890 fake pages and accounts since the beginning of the year. The ministry also urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid sharing their banking information or confidential security codes.
Ministry spokesperson Colonel Mohammed Ali Al-Hassoun said fraudsters use a variety of methods, including sending fraudulent links, impersonating government institutions and banks, and falsely claiming that individuals have won prizes or been offered investment opportunities in an attempt to obtain their banking information.
He urged citizens not to click on links from unknown sources or transfer money in response to unverified requests. Those who have been targeted by attempted fraud were also advised to retain messages and conversations that could assist the relevant authorities in their investigations.
Al-Hassoun stressed that combating electronic fraud is a shared responsibility between government institutions and citizens, adding that greater public awareness and prompt reporting through the 911 emergency number can help reduce such crimes and protect both personal funds and sensitive data.
