E-Commerce and the "One-Stop Market": Are Traditional Stores Saying Goodbye to Buying and Selling in Iraq?

FinTech applications are no longer limited to electronic payments. Platforms such as Gini, Miswag, and Tamata are now helping reshape the structure of e-commerce in Iraq. Iraqi consumers no longer need to visit physical markets: they can simply open an app, select a product, pay electronically, and have the order delivered directly to their doorstep.

The statistics tell a clear story: Iraq's e-commerce market was valued at approximately $1.2 billion in 2025, with studies projecting that it could reach $3 billion by 2027. Traditional shop and store owners are beginning to feel the pressure of this rapid transformation.

However, FinTech is not the only solution to the challenges facing e-commerce. Logistical difficulties, theft during delivery, and upfront payments without adequate guarantees are creating a new crisis of consumer trust.

The question is whether FinTech will help solve these challenges—or ultimately make them even more complicated.
